He Paid For A Phone, He Got A Floor Tile!! School Boy Scammed In Ashaiman After Receiving Tile-Stuffed Phone Box Instead Of Itel P36

A school boy in Ashaiman, Accra, has fallen victim to a brazen street scam after allegedly purchasing an Itel P36 smartphone only to discover that the sealed packaging contained nothing but a ceramic floor tile.

The incident, captured on video and shared by WeLoveGH, occurred in the busy Ashaiman township on Friday afternoon.

In the footage, a phone-sized grey package is held up for the camera, revealing the deceptive item used by the fraudsters to simulate the weight and feel of an actual smartphone inside its casing.

According to accounts accompanying the video, the victim had gone to Ashaiman to purchase the Itel P36, a budget-friendly Android device popular among low-income consumers in Ghana and was handed what appeared to be a legitimate packaged phone. It was only after the transaction that the deception was uncovered.

The suspect involved in the scam had fled the scene by the time the footage was recorded. No arrests had been confirmed at the time of publication.

The incident has renewed warnings from consumer protection advocates about the dangers of purchasing electronic devices from unverified street vendors, particularly in busy commercial areas where quick transactions make it easy for fraudsters to operate and disappear.
