The catastrophic structural failure resulted in the immediate death of one site worker and left seven others severely injured.
The incident has triggered widespread anger and forced the state government to launch an emergency safety and accountability probe to uncover potential compromises in engineering standards.

Governor Inuwa Orders Immediate Probe, Directs Free Medical Care
In the wake of the disaster, the Gombe State Government issued a stern statement through the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works, Housing, and Transportation, Danladi Adamu. The administration confirmed that Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has been fully briefed on the infrastructure failure and has directed that all surviving victims receive comprehensive medical treatment entirely at the state’s expense.
The Governor also conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased laborer, while warning that any evidence of negligence by the handling firms will be met with severe sanctions.
“The Governor expressed heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and directed that all injured workers receive comprehensive medical care at government’s expense,” the statement read. “The contractor and the project consultant have been directed to submit a Formal Incident Report within twenty-four (24) hours, to be followed by a Preliminary Investigation Report.”

The Gombe Assembly complex disaster has intensified public debate regarding structural integrity and the lack of strict supervision by regulatory building boards over government contracts.
State officials have vowed that the outcome of the comprehensive technical report will guide the state’s judicial decisions, promising to enforce strict quality, engineering, and safety compliance moving forward.
While the Ministry of Works awaits the 24-hour formal submittal from the technical consultants, security agencies have cordoned off the Assembly complex site to prevent further structural accidents and secure the area for technical investigators.
