Fear of Ebola: Lagos launches awareness campaign across three LGAs

The Lagos State Government has advised residents of Eti-Osa, Ibeju-Lekki, and Epe to stay alert and follow safety measures qagainst Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) to protect public health.

In a stateemAment released by the state government, the Permanent Secretary of Health District III, Dr. Monsurat Adeleke, urged residents to remain vigilant and take preventive steps against the disease.

Dr. Adeleke explained that Ebola Virus Disease is caused by the Ebola virus and can lead to severe illness and death if it is not detected and treated early.

She said Health District III has intensified public awareness campaigns across the three local government areas to educate residents on how to prevent infection and stay safe.

According to her, Ebola spreads mainly through direct contact with the blood, saliva, vomit, and other bodily fluids of infected people or animals.

To reduce the risk of infection, she advised residents to avoid contact with sick individuals, dead bodies, and wild animals such as bats and monkeys. She also encouraged people to maintain good personal hygiene, use hand sanitisers regularly, and avoid eating undercooked meat.

Dr. Adeleke stressed that public awareness and compliance with health guidelines are crucial in preventing the spread of the disease.

She noted that although there is currently no confirmed Ebola outbreak in Nigeria, residents should remain cautious.

“Although there is no confirmed Ebola outbreak in Nigeria at this time, vigilance, prompt reporting, adherence to infection prevention measures, and community awareness remain essential to protecting lives and preventing the spread of the disease. Health District III is working with relevant agencies to strengthen surveillance, public awareness, and emergency preparedness across Eti-Osa, Ibeju-Lekki, and Epe,” she said.

The Lagos State Government reiterated its commitment to monitoring the situation and urged residents to report any suspected cases to health authorities immediately.
