EFCC Releases Activists Randy Peter, Mama Pee After Hours of Questioning in Abuja

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released activists Randy Peter and Precious Oruche, popularly known as Mama Pee, after they honoured an invitation by the anti-graft agency at its headquarters in Abuja.

The duo regained their freedom shortly after midnight on Wednesday following several hours of questioning by EFCC officials. They were, however, directed to return to the commission’s office on Thursday for further engagement.

The development was confirmed by fellow activist Justice Crack, who accompanied Randy Peter and Mama Pee to the EFCC headquarters and provided updates on his verified 𝕏 account.

According to him, the activists arrived at the EFCC headquarters at approximately 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15, and remained with investigators throughout the day before they were eventually allowed to leave.

Sharing details of the visit, Justice Crack wrote, “My dear brother, @Peter4Nigeria, and my sister, @MamaPee_ were invited by the @officialEFCC. I personally accompanied them there on the afternoon of 15th July 2026, at about 1:00 p.m. It was a very long day.”

Providing a later update on the outcome of the invitation, he stated, “They were eventually released at around 12:00 a.m. and were asked to return the following day, 16th July 2026. For now, everything is fine.”

Justice Crack also posted a video from the car park of the EFCC headquarters while waiting for the activists to conclude their meeting with officials of the anti-graft agency.

Before news of their release emerged, concerns had spread across social media after reports indicated that the two activists had remained inside the EFCC headquarters for several hours after honouring the invitation.

Peter Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign photographer, Esther Umoh, had earlier expressed concern over the situation in a post on 𝕏, revealing that the activists were yet to leave the commission’s office several hours after their arrival.

She wrote, “@MamaPee__ and @Peter4Nigeria were invited by the EFCC in Abuja, and as respectful citizens, they honored the invitation today. But as I type this, they are yet to be released by the commission.”

The prolonged questioning fuelled widespread speculation online, with many social media users expressing fears that the activists had been detained or arrested by the commission.

Those concerns were, however, eased after Justice Crack confirmed that both Randy Peter and Mama Pee had been released and instructed to report back to the EFCC headquarters on Thursday for further discussions.

As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC had not publicly disclosed the reason for inviting the two activists or the nature of the issues discussed during the lengthy questioning.

The anti-graft agency has also yet to issue an official statement regarding the invitation, the outcome of the engagement, or whether any formal investigation involving the activists is underway.
