Disgusting!! Tema Newtown Beach Choked With Waste As Resident Cries Out For Help

Videos circulating on social media have laid bare the shocking state of a beach in Tema Newtown, with the entire coastline buried under a dense carpet of refuse stretching hundreds of metres along the shoreline.

The video show layers of plastic bottles, polythene bags, discarded clothing, and mixed solid waste piled high between community structures and the sea,  leaving virtually no visible sand along the affected stretch.

A concerned resident who drew attention to the deteriorating conditions expressed deep frustration over what he described as a longstanding environmental crisis that has received little meaningful intervention from authorities.

According to him, the absence of a coordinated waste management response has compelled him to act personally.

He disclosed that he has on multiple occasions carried out clean-up exercises along portions of the beach at his own initiative, though the scale of the problem has consistently outpaced individual effort.

The resident called on the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, the Environmental Protection Agency, and other relevant bodies to urgently deploy resources to address the situation before it causes further damage to the marine environment and the health of residents living in close proximity to the coastline.

Tema Newtown is a densely populated fishing community and one of the oldest settlements in the Tema municipality.

Its beach serves as a critical livelihood space for fisherfolk, making the waste crisis particularly damaging to the local economy as well as public health.
