“Check The House Properly Before Paying Rent” — Tenant Raises Alarm After Finding Something Strange In A Newly Rented Apartment

A tenant is warning fellow renters to thoroughly inspect properties before committing to any rent payment, after the floor of her room reportedly caved in, revealing a soakaway pit directly beneath where she had been living.

According to his account, there was little to no warning before the ground beneath her floor gave way, exposing the underground structure that had apparently been concealed beneath the surface all along.

For someone who had been unknowingly living directly above the pit, the discovery was as alarming as it was dangerous, raising serious questions about the structural safety of the room she had rented.

“Check the house properly before paying rent,” he cautioned, using his own unsettling experience as a warning to others who might be house-hunting without giving the property’s underlying structure enough scrutiny before signing on and handing over payment.

Soakaways, typically used to manage wastewater drainage, are meant to be properly covered and structurally separated from living spaces, and a floor collapsing directly into one raises troubling questions about how the room was constructed or whether proper building standards were followed at all during its development.
