AWADA, ANAMBRA STATE — There was immediate panic and tension at the Divine Mercy Hospital in the Awada area of Obosi, Anambra State, on Wednesday, following the interception of a woman suspected to be a child kidnapper disguised as a medical professional.

Local reports monitored online reveal that the suspect allegedly sneaked into the hospital facility carrying a nurse’s uniform concealed inside a polythene bag (nylon bag).

Foiled Kidnap Attempt

According to an eyewitness account shared by a local security and community handle on X (formerly Twitter), @Kene_Nnewi, the woman’s movements raised suspicion among hospital staff and alert onlookers.

The suspect allegedly intended to change into the nurse’s outfit inside the hospital premises to seamlessly blend in with the medical staff, access the maternity ward, and abduct a newborn baby.

“Happening now at Divine Mercy Hospital, Awada, Anambra State,” the report stated. “A woman came with a nurse outfit in her poly bag trying to frame as a nurse, meanwhile she came to kidnap a baby.”

Rising Vigilance Over Hospital Child Theft

Incidents of child trafficking syndicates targeting private and public hospitals across Nigeria by infiltrating wards disguised as doctors or nurses have been on a worrying rise. Security experts have repeatedly warned hospital administrators to strictly enforce the use of official, verifiable identity tags for all personnel.
