According to an eyewitness account shared by a local security and community handle on X (formerly Twitter), @Kene_Nnewi, the woman’s movements raised suspicion among hospital staff and alert onlookers.
The suspect allegedly intended to change into the nurse’s outfit inside the hospital premises to seamlessly blend in with the medical staff, access the maternity ward, and abduct a newborn baby.
“Happening now at Divine Mercy Hospital, Awada, Anambra State,” the report stated. “A woman came with a nurse outfit in her poly bag trying to frame as a nurse, meanwhile she came to kidnap a baby.”

Incidents of child trafficking syndicates targeting private and public hospitals across Nigeria by infiltrating wards disguised as doctors or nurses have been on a worrying rise.
