According to a report by Vanguard on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, national president of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has said that his life experiences and practical knowledge have given him a broader understanding of life than many university graduates, despite not having a formal education.

He stated that years of working, interacting with people, and navigating different stages of life had equipped him with valuable lessons that could not always be acquired in the classroom.Favor And Life Battles? Speaking recently at the 50th birthday celebration of Islamic singer Hafsat Adegoke and the unveiling of her new album in Alausa, Lagos, MC Oluomo reflected on his early years and the path that eventually led him to become the leader of the National Union of Road Transport Workers.

He recounted how he started working as a teenager and gradually built his life through dedication and hard work, emphasizing that his journey had shaped his outlook on life and leadership.

According to him, he began earning money at a young age while working as a bus conductor, a role that enabled him to contribute financially to his family.

He explained that despite his age, he understood the importance of responsibility and was determined to support his mother by taking part of his earnings home for household expenses.

He also recalled setting aside some of the money he earned to enjoy personal entertainment, including watching Indian films at Danjuma Cinema.

MC Oluomo noted that his experiences from those formative years gave him practical exposure to life and helped him develop skills that have remained useful throughout his career.

He maintained that while formal education is important, practical experience also plays a significant role in shaping an individual’s understanding, decision-making ability, and capacity to relate to people from different backgrounds.

He said the knowledge he acquired through years of work had contributed significantly to his personal growth.

The NURTW president further reflected on how his journey from being a young bus conductor to leading one of the country’s largest transport unions demonstrated the value of perseverance and commitment.

He suggested that life outside the classroom had provided him with opportunities to learn lessons that have influenced his leadership style and broadened his perspective over the years.

He reiterated that his experiences had helped him understand people and society in ways he believes are comparable to, and in some cases greater than, those with formal academic qualifications.

He said, “I’ve been spending money since I was 13 years old. I worked as a conductor from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. I would go to Danjuma Cinema to watch Indian movies with my own money, and I still took money home for my mother to buy food.”
