27-Year-Old Man Jailed Three Years After Swallowing Five SIM Cards During Arrest

A 27-year-old man, identified as Awudu Baba, has been sentenced to three years in prison after he was found guilty of stealing mobile phones and swallowing five SIM cards in an attempt to avoid being caught.

According to the police, Baba swallowed the SIM cards after realising that he was about to be arrested during a routine search on the Kasoa-Bawjiase road.

The stolen phones reportedly included an iPhone 6, an iPhone 6 Plus, a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and a Samsung A12.

Police said the unusual act occurred as officers carried out the search and the suspect realised that the SIM cards could potentially link him to the phones or their owners.

Baba was subsequently arrested and prosecuted over the theft. He has now been handed a three-year prison sentence following the court proceedings.

The case has attracted attention because of the extraordinary step the suspect allegedly took in an attempt to conceal evidence during his arrest.
