“You Can’t Even Iron Your Uniform!” — Young Man Blasts Police Over Alleged Bribery At Checkpoints

A young man identified online as God First has publicly called out officers of the Ghana Police Service, accusing some of them of extorting bribes from motorists at roadside checkpoints and abusing their authority.

In a video circulating widely, he is heard warning, “Police, be careful or else we will scatter all of you.

Most of you finished school with F9. You can’t even iron your uniform, yet you stand by the roadside demanding money from people, even when they don’t have any.”

The blunt remarks have struck a nerve online, with many Ghanaians sharing similar frustrations about roadside checkpoint encounters.

His comments also add to a growing wave of public scrutiny around police conduct at checkpoints. In recent months, several viral videos have captured officers allegedly soliciting bribes from drivers, prompting the Ghana Police Service to interdict multiple personnel and hand them over to its Professional Standards Bureau for investigation.

A 2025 Ghana Statistical Service report found the police’s Motor Transport and Traffic Division was perceived as the most bribery-prone public institution in the country, with only 23% of Ghanaians believing police always operate professionally.

The Ghana Police Service has not yet responded directly to God First’s comments.
