A viral Nigerian bride has addressed the backlash surrounding her decision to keep her marriage private from  her friends for a period of time.

The bride, identified as Folashade, spoke out after a video from her wedding sparked conversations online, with some social media users questioning her relationship with her friends.

In a statement shared on social media, she said she deliberately chose to keep her marriage private for personal reasons and only told her friends when she was ready.

“Yes, I got married. Yes, I chose to keep it private for a while. And yes, my friends found out when I decided to tell them,” she wrote.

She said her decision was never intended to portray her friends as unimportant or suggest that she did not value their friendships.

According to her, people online had drawn conclusions about her relationships based on a single moment captured on camera.

“What you saw was one moment captured on camera, not the full story of my friendships or my life,” she said.

The bride also dismissed suggestions that her friends were fake or that she had deliberately wronged them, saying they were all fine and that there was no scandal surrounding the situation.

She thanked those who had celebrated her marriage and wished her well, while asking social media users to respect her privacy and allow her to enjoy her new chapter.

“I got married, I kept it private, I eventually announced it to the people I love, and that’s really it,” she added.
