Women stage protest against alleged sex workers, accuse them of luring away husbands and young men

A group of women from the Elugwu Akwu community in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State took to the streets on Tuesday, June 16, to stage a protest over the activities of alleged sex workers in their area.

The women, who marched through parts of the community carrying placards with various inscriptions, voiced concerns about what they described as the growing influence of commercial sex activities in the neighborhood.

During the demonstration, the protesters claimed that the presence of the alleged sex workers was negatively affecting families and marriages within the community.

Some of the women humorously lamented that their husbands were no longer paying them enough attention because they were allegedly spending more time and money on the women operating in the area.

One protester was heard saying that their husbands were no longer “manhandling their waists” as they used to, blaming the situation on the presence of the “Ashawos” in Elugwu Akwu.

The women called on community leaders and relevant authorities to intervene and address their concerns, insisting that the issue was becoming a source of tension in many homes.

Videos from the protest have since gone viral on social media, attracting widespread reactions from Nigerians.

While some users sympathized with the women and supported their demands, others found some of the comments made during the protest amusing and turned them into jokes online.

The demonstration has sparked conversations about family relationships, community values, and the challenges residents face when commercial sex activities become prominent in residential areas.
