Woman dies after being knocked to the ground by a monkey outside her home

A 91-year-old woman has died after being knocked to the ground by a monkey outside her home in Karnataka, India. The incident happened at Najamunnisa Begum’s home in B.T. Patil Nagar on the evening of September 19.

CCTV footage shows Najamunnisa standing near the entrance to her courtyard before walking towards the side of the property after apparently hearing a noise. She then turned and began moving back towards the house after spotting the monkey. The animal suddenly leapt towards the elderly woman, striking her with its feet and causing her to fall backwards onto the ground. Najamunnisa struck her head during the fall and suffered serious injuries.

Moments later, her daughter emerged from the house after hearing the commotion and found her mother lying injured on the ground. The monkey reportedly moved towards the daughter as though it was about to attack again before jumping onto a nearby garden wall.

Najamunnisa was taken to a private hospital for treatment of her head injury. Although she initially appeared to be recovering, her condition later deteriorated and she died in hospital the following day. The fatal incident follows other reported deaths linked to encounters with monkeys in India in recent weeks.

On September 10, a 55-year-old woman died after falling from a rooftop while reportedly attempting to escape monkeys in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. Four days later, another woman died after falling from a rooftop following a reported monkey attack in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh.
