Why I might not get married – Chimsom Chuka
By Nehru Odeh
Big Brother Naija Season 11 housemate, Chimsom Chuka, has opened up about his views on love, relationships and marriage, saying he may choose not to marry if he does not find a woman who meets his standards.
Chimsom made this known during a conversation with fellow housemate Barry on Friday night, where they discussed relationships and what they expect from a life partner.
The reality TV star, who said he believes strongly in love and marriage, explained that he has certain criteria that a woman must meet before he would consider entering into a serious relationship with her.
According to him, he does not want to marry a woman who would become a liability or constantly seek to benefit from the relationship without contributing to it.
Chimsom said he would rather remain unmarried than find himself in a stressful marriage.
“Because if I don’t meet a woman that fits that criteria, I will not get married because I don’t want to get married to a liability. I don’t want to get married to someone who always looks to gain. It would just be stressful,” he said.
He stressed that his decision would not be because he is against marriage, insisting that he actually loves the idea of marriage and having a lifelong partner.
“I want to have a partner for life. I love the idea of marriage. I love the idea of love,” Chimsom added.
The housemate also appeared to value emotional openness and companionship in a relationship, suggesting that he wants a partner with whom he can freely communicate, particularly during difficult moments.
He questioned the prospect of being in a marriage where one would be afraid to complain or share one’s struggles with a partner.
“Would you be scared of complaining to them?” he asked during the conversation.
Chimsom’s comments offer a glimpse into the kind of relationship he hopes to build outside the BBNaija house, where he has consistently presented himself as outspoken and confident.
Chimsom Chuka, whose full name is Chimsom Chuka-Okoli, is one of the 24 housemates competing in the 11th season of Big Brother Naija, themed Show Ya Sef. He was the fifth housemate unveiled during the season’s launch.
He also made an early impression in the competition after winning the first Head of House challenge, securing immunity from the first week’s eviction.
His latest comments, however, shift the spotlight from the competition to his personal philosophy about love — and his insistence that marriage, for him, must be a partnership rather than a burden.
