The Commander of the Force Intelligence Department–Special Tactical Squad (FID-STS), ACP Victor Ogbeide Godfrey, has revealed that the arrest of suspected kidnapping kingpin Usman Muhammed Lawani, also known as Yellow Lawani, and his brother, Abubakar Usman, was the culmination of a six-month intelligence and surveillance operation.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News on June 22, 2026, Godfrey said the operation was carefully coordinated and driven by intelligence gathered over several months as part of efforts to dismantle kidnapping networks operating in northern and central parts of the country.
According to the police commander, Lawani had been under close watch because of his alleged involvement in criminal activities across multiple states. He noted that intelligence linked the suspect to operations in Zamfara and Niger states, as well as a series of kidnappings along the Abuja-Kogi corridor.
