Western Region: Two Dead, Dozens Displaced As Entire Samreboi Community Submerges Following Torrential Rainfall

Two people have lost their lives following severe flooding in Samreboi in the Amenfi West Municipality of the Western Region, after torrential rainfall caused the Samre River to overflow its banks and submerge large portions of the community.

Community members have identified the deceased as a 17-year-old and a child aged one year and six months, a detail that has deepened the grief of a community already struggling with the scale of the disaster.

Aerial footage and ground-level images from the scene show the extent of the flooding, with hundreds of homes inundated by brown floodwaters across what appears to be a significant portion of the town.

Rooftops are visible above the waterline in some areas, while entire streets and compounds are fully submerged. A suspension bridge in one aerial shot is surrounded on both sides by the swollen river, illustrating how dramatically the Samre River has burst beyond its normal course.

Residents have been left stranded, with numerous families displaced and many struggling to salvage belongings from waterlogged homes. The scale of displacement suggests a significant humanitarian response will be required in the coming days.

The National Disaster Management Organisation has not yet issued a public statement on the incident at the time of publication. The Amenfi West Municipal Assembly and relevant emergency services are yet to formally outline their response.
