We Wasted 8 Years — Ken Agyapong Admits NPP Did Nothing On Afari Hospital Despite Eight Years In Power

Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has made a frank admission that the New Patriotic Party government failed to deliver on the Afari Hospital project during its eight-year tenure, describing the inaction as a truth that must be spoken regardless of party affiliation.

Speaking to journalists, the outspoken politician said: “I’m an NPP member, but I must speak the truth when talking about Ghana. We did nothing — read my lips, that’s the Gospel truth.”

Kennedy Agyapong, who served as Chairman of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, revealed that attempts by legislators to visit the Afari facility were blocked, preventing direct oversight of the project’s status.

His remarks appear to be a direct response to claims made about the hospital’s progress, with Agyapong challenging the timeline being offered by others. “I heard somebody talking about fifteen months, I ask: has the Afari Hospital been in existence for fifteen months? We were in power for eight years and didn’t do it,” he said.

The admission has drawn significant attention online, with many praising the politician for what they described as rare political honesty, while others used the statement to renew calls for accountability over stalled healthcare infrastructure projects across the country.

The Afari Hospital, located in the Ashanti Region, has long been cited as an example of delayed public health infrastructure delivery in Ghana.
