VP Shettima Visits NIPSS After Gunmen Attack

The Vice President of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima, on Friday, visited the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Plateau State.

Naija News reports that the Vice President was at the Institute for an on-the-spot assessment of the institution’s operations, facilities and ongoing strategic programmes following the recent attack by gunmen.

Recall that gunmen in the early hours of Tuesday, attacked NIPSS. The attack was confirmed in a statement by the NIPSS Head of Public Affairs Department, Dr Osime Samuel.

According to him, the situation was promptly brought under control by security personnel and relevant security agencies, adding that there is no threat to the safety of participants, staff, residents, or facilities of the Institute, and normal activities are continuing as scheduled.

On Friday, Shettima, accompanied by Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang and other senior government officials, was received by the Director-General of NIPSS, Professor Ayo Omotayo, alongside members of the institute’s management team.

The Vice President is on the ground to reassure the institute and the host community of the Federal Government’s ongoing interventions aimed at entrenching peace and stability in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the Plateau State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the death of three security personnel during the Tuesday early morning attack by gunmen on the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Plateau State.

The death was confirmed in a statement on Tuesday by the Plateau Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo.

The NIPSS Director-General, Professor Omotayo, on Thursday, said some arrests have been made in relation to the attack and investigations are ongoing to bring all those responsible to justice.
