US ends search for Navy pilot lost when helicopter crashed during Iran war

The US Navy called off the search for a missing crew member on Sunday after his helicopter went down in the Arabian Sea last week.

The MH-60S Sea Hawk, assigned to the USS George HW Bush aircraft carrier, was forced to make an emergency landing early Wednesday.

Only four out of the five crew members were rescued.

“The efforts concluded following an extensive search by the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility,” the US 5th Fleet said in a statement.

“For more than 102 hours, an extensive and coordinated search and rescue effort spanning over 14,000 square miles was conducted.”

The Navy did not immediately identify the service member who was lost at sea.

Including the naval aviator, 14 American soldiers have been confirmed dead in the war with Iran.
