Trump says Secret Service agent not shot by friendly fire, as attack video is released

US President Donald Trump and the ⁠head of the Secret Service said on Thursday that the federal agent injured during the attack at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner had not been hit by friendly fire, as authorities released a video of the incident.

Jeanine Pirro, the top federal prosecutor for Washington, posted the footage on social media, saying it showed the suspect shooting the US Secret Service officer as he ran through security towards the gala packed with journalists, administration officials and others.

Pirro said there was no evidence that the agent was hit by friendly fire.

US Secret Service Director Sean Curran said in a Thursday Fox News interview that one agent ‌was shot at “point blank range” by the suspect Cole Tomas Allen, 31, as he ran through the security checkpoint.

“Our officer heroically returned fire,” Curran said on The Will Cain Show, adding the agent fired five times.

The suspect was not hit by the agent’s return fire, Curran explained, but fell to the ground after hitting his knee.
