Trump holds phone calls with Putin and Zelensky on his 80th birthday

Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday, where he congratulated Trump on his 80th birthday and discussed relations between Russia and the United States.

According to Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov, the call lasted nearly an hour. During the conversation, Trump once again called for an end to the war in Ukraine.

The two leaders also agreed that U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would visit Russia again in the near future.

Putin reportedly told Trump that if Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wants direct talks, he should come to Moscow. Zelensky has previously rejected similar proposals.

The Kremlin also stated that Trump informed Putin that a possible agreement involving the United States and Iran could be reached soon and may be announced shortly.

On the same day, Trump also held a separate phone call with Zelensky. During their conversation, the Ukrainian leader wished Trump a happy birthday and discussed several important issues, including peace efforts.

“We have had quite a detailed discussion about many key things. Peace, surely, was among them,” Zelensky said.

The leaders are expected to continue discussions in person during the upcoming G7 Summit.

“We agreed that we will discuss more during our meeting at the G7 Summit,” Zelensky added.

The talks come at a time when international efforts to end the war in Ukraine and ease global tensions remain a major focus for world leaders.
