1. Your Call For Tinubu’s Resignation Is Childish Distraction – Presidency Replies Peter Obi

The presidency has condemned the recent call from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for President Bola Tinubu to resign.

According to a statement on Monday by presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the call from Obi for Tinubu’s resignation is childish and an unwarranted distraction.

KeepLoss recalls that Obi had, in a statement on Monday via his 𝕏 Account, demanded Tinubu’s resignation.

The former Governor of Anambra State based his call on the decision of the British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, to resign from office.

According to him, the developments that led to Starmer’s resignation are similar to those Nigerians are experiencing with President Tinubu; hence, the expected outcome is for Tinubu to resign from office.

The former Labour Party presidential candidate said Starmer resigned from office due to mounting public frustration over a stagnant economy, a worsening cost-of-living crisis, and a perceived failure to honour key campaign pledges, which Nigerians are also experiencing with the Tinubu administration.

However, Onanuga, in response, said there is no basis for comparison between happenings in the two countries.

The presidential spokesperson insisted that Tinubu is popular with Nigerians, adding that the President was elected for a fixed four-year term, unlike the parliamentary system being run by the UK.

Onanuga charged Obi to wait for the 2027 elections to test his popularity at the polls.

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, at the Kuje Correctional Centre.

KeepLoss reports that the development follows the revocation of the bail the court earlier granted him.

The activist will remain in custody until Wednesday, when proceedings will resume on a two-count cybercrime charge filed by the Department of State Services (DSS) against him for calling President Bola Tinubu a “criminal” in a social media post.

Trial Justice Mohammed Umar had, in a ruling on June 16, not only revoked the bail but also issued a warrant of arrest against the defendant.

The arrest order came after the defendant, who was billed to open his defence to the charge, failed to appear before the court for the continuation of his trial.

Sowore had earlier opted to represent himself before the court after his legal team withdrew from the case.

A lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, on Monday told the Federal High Court in Abuja that former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, admitted during a television interview that the conversation of the National Security Adviser was listened to.

KeepLoss reports that Adeyanju, who appeared as the second prosecution witness in the trial of the former governor over alleged phone tapping and breach of national security, said he was present when El-Rufai allegedly made the statement during the interview.

El-Rufai is standing trial over allegations relating to the alleged tapping of the phone lines of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and breach of national security.

Led in evidence by prosecution counsel, Oluwole Aladedoye, Adeyanju confirmed that he knew El-Rufai as a former governor of Kaduna State.

He also recalled issuing a public statement after reports emerged that the former governor was to be arrested by security operatives.

While giving evidence, Adeyanju told the court that he was later invited by the Department of State Services, where he was asked to recount what happened at the television studio.

According to him, he confirmed to investigators that he was present when El-Rufai made the statements on air.

4. You Are Yet To Settle Down But Calling For Tinubu’s Resignation – Agbese Knocks Agbedi

The Deputy spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Philip Agbese, has dissociated himself from the call for President Bola Tinubu to resign over security challenges facing Nigeria.

Agbese, who is a member of the Labour Party (LP), described the calls for Tinubu’s resignation as “mere opposition rhetorics.”

According to him, the demand for President Tinubu to resign from office is politically motivated and unhelpful in the fight against insecurity.

KeepLoss reports that Agbese’s position follows the challenge by the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Fred Agbedi, who recently urged President Tinubu to either resolve the nation’s security and economic challenges or resign from office.

However, the House Deputy Spokesperson, said Agbedi’s call is inflammatory and targeted at scoring cheap political points.

According to him, the security situation in the country, though challenging, requires collective effort.

Traffic was disrupted on Monday at the popular Iwo Road area of Ibadan, Oyo State, as protesters under the aegis of the Take It Back Movement barricaded the major route in protest against rising insecurity in the country.

KeepLossreports that the demonstrators, who converged on the area at about 10 a.m., called on the government to intensify efforts towards securing the release of abducted schoolchildren and teachers kidnapped in Oyo State.

Speaking during the protest, the National Coordinator of the Take It Back Movement, Juwon Sanyaolu, said the action was a continuation of previous campaigns by the group following the abduction of pupils and teachers in Orire Local Government Area of the state in May.

According to him, the organisation would continue to mobilise citizens until all abducted victims regain their freedom.

The activist noted that the demand of the protesters extended beyond Oyo State, stressing that all victims of kidnapping across the country should be rescued.

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has vowed to teach the governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, a political lesson.
