‘Tinubu Is A Thief’ – VDM, Kanu Reacts As Court Remands Sowore In Prison

The remand of activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, at the Kuje Correctional Centre by a Federal High Court in Abuja has attracted reactions.

Naijapunchnews had earlier reported that Justice Mohammed Garba Umar, in a ruling on Monday, ordered that Sowore be remanded pending the hearing and determination of his motion seeking a stay of execution of the order revoking his bail and issuing a bench warrant against him.

Sowore is being prosecuted over allegations that he made false claims against President Bola Tinubu by referring to him as “a criminal” in posts on his social media accounts.

Reacting to the development, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, younger brother of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, expressed confidence that Sowore would overcome the situation.

In a post on his Facebook page, Emmanuel Kanu wrote, “Know that you are not alone in this battle. Surely, from grass to grace. Oppression, suppression, and subjugation are never sustainable.

“You will always emerge victorious. The universe remains on the side of justice. Biafrans are earnestly praying for you.”

“All I can say here is that there is corruption in the Justice system in Nigeria. They are prosecuting him for calling Tinubu a thief. I don’t know Sowore’s interpretation of ‘thief’ but in my own interpretation, Tinubu’s government has robbed us of a lot of things,” he said.

According to him, insecurity and economic hardship have worsened under the current administration.

“They robbed us of access to farmland and access to secured roads. As I speak to you today, the whole Northern region has been taken over by terrorists and bandits.

“If you ask me, I would say that Tinubu’s administration is a thief. I am not a supporter of Sowore but that doesn’t mean we will be deaf ears about what is happening,” he added
