‘The Worst Thing to Wish on Anyone Is Kidnapping’ — Nigerian Pastor Abducted Alongside His Wife And Sister Recounts Ordeal In Captivity

An Edo-based cleric, Caleb Adavize Philip, has shared a chilling account of his experience after being abducted alongside his wife and sister by suspected kidnappers.

The pastor disclosed the traumatic details in a Facebook post on Thursday, June 11, 2026, shortly after he and his family members regained their freedom. He also shared photographs showing them receiving medical attention at a hospital following their release from captivity.

According to Philip, their abductors demanded a ransom of ₦50 million before agreeing to release them, subjecting the family to days of fear, uncertainty, and physical hardship.

Reflecting on the ordeal, the cleric described the experience as one of the most painful and terrifying episodes of his life. He recounted enduring harsh weather conditions, repeated threats from armed captors, long treks through difficult terrain, and countless insect bites while being held against their will.

He said the psychological impact of the ordeal was particularly devastating, noting that the constant fear of death and the uncertainty surrounding their fate left lasting emotional scars.

“I can’t forget this in a hurry, how we were kidnapped, myself, my wife and my sister for days while they were demanding ₦50 million for our release,” he wrote.

The pastor went on to describe kidnapping as one of the most traumatic experiences anyone could face, saying he would not wish such suffering even on his enemies.

“The worst prayer you could pray for your enemies is for them to be kidnapped. Yes, that’s the highest,” he stated.

“The psychological trauma, the fear, the torture, the rain, the scorching sun, insect bites, the endless trekking, the threats to our lives with weapons, the huge amount of money involved and many other things are experiences I will never forget. Lord, save our nation. Thank you, Jesus, for preserving our lives.”

The incident has once again highlighted growing concerns over insecurity and the increasing cases of kidnapping for ransom across several parts of Nigeria. Victims and their families often endure severe emotional, physical, and financial strain while awaiting the release of loved ones from captivity.

Friends, family members, and well-wishers have since flooded the pastor’s social media page with messages of gratitude and support, thanking God for the safe return of the family and wishing them a speedy recovery from the traumatic experience.
