Soldier and policeman k!lled, many abducted as bandits attack Zamfara community

A soldier and a police officer have been k!lled, while scores of residents were abducted when bandits attacked Kasuwar Daji District in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Residents said the attackers invaded the community at about 1:40am on Sunday, August 2, 2026, firing indiscriminately and moving from house to house in search of specific individuals whose names and residences they allegedly

A resident, Inuwa Giranto, said the attackers overwhelmed security personnel despite efforts by soldiers, police operatives and local vigilantes to repel the assault.

According to him, the officer in charge of the military base called for reinforcements as the bandits retreated into a nearby forest with an unspecified number of abducted residents.

“It was like the end of the world. Women and children were screaming for help while livestock scattered in panic. The whole community was thrown into confusion,” he said.

Residents claimed that more than 70 people were abducted, although security authorities have yet to confirm the figure.

Kaura Namoda had suffered attacks in the past few days.

Last week, bandits attacked the residence of the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, Zamfara State, Dr Aminu Yusuf, killing his security guard before abducting several residents in different parts of the town.

The rector, his family members and several other victims were later rescued by troops.
