Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has been given a rousing reception by Ghanaian football fans at the Delta Hotel in Canada, as excitement surrounding Ghana’s World Cup campaign continued to surge.

The football icon was swarmed by an enthusiastic crowd of supporters, many dressed in the Black Stars’ signature gold and black jerseys and waving Ghana’s national flag who thronged around him for photographs and a chance to catch a glimpse of the country’s all-time leading scorer.

Footage and images from the scene captured the electric atmosphere inside the hotel, with fans chanting and jostling to get close to the former striker, whose presence in Canada has amplified the growing fever among the Ghanaian diaspora ahead of the tournament.

Asamoah Gyan, who retired from international football having scored 51 goals for the Black Stars,  a record that remains unmatched is widely regarded as one of Ghana’s greatest ever footballers.

His appearances at previous World Cup tournaments, including his iconic performances at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, cemented his legendary status among supporters.

The scenes at the Delta Hotel reflect the high spirits among Ghanaian fans who have travelled to Canada to support the Black Stars, with the diaspora community turning out in large numbers to create a home-away-from-home atmosphere for the national team.
