Refinery IPO: Davido grills Dangote

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has questioned Aliko Dangote on why Nigerians should invest in the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals during their meeting in New York.

Davido, alongside his wife Chioma Adeleke, joined Dangote at a series of high-profile appearances linked to activities around the United Nations General Assembly.

A video circulating online showed the singer asking Dangote why members of the public should buy shares in the refinery, placing the billionaire in the spotlight over the ongoing Initial Public Offering.

Dangote responded by highlighting the investment opportunity surrounding the refinery, as the exchange between both men generated reactions from Nigerians online.

“It is very important, David, because that’s the only way to spread prosperity and wealth, you know, throughout Africa. And like what I said, this is not going to be the first and the last we will continue to do even our fertilizer. By the time we finish listing, every single African will own part of our businesses and they will create, you know, pool of cash,” Dangote said.

The moment came shortly after Davido and Dangote appeared together at Times Square, where a Nasdaq digital billboard promoted the Dangote Petroleum Refinery IPO with the message, “Made in Nigeria. Built for the World.”

The refinery’s IPO, which opened on September 14 and closes on October 13, offers 4.1 billion shares at ₦525 per share to Nigerian and eligible African investors.

Davido shared footage from the Times Square appearance on his social media platforms, with the moment attracting attention because of the rare public interaction between one of Africa’s biggest entertainers and its wealthiest businessman on an investment conversation.

The singer, his wife Chioma, and Dangote were later seen together at another gathering in New York, further fueling discussions online about their relationship and the significance of their appearances during UNGA week.
