Police Investigate Mysterious Delivery of Live Ammunition to First Bank MD

The Lagos State Police Command has commenced an intensive investigation following the mysterious delivery of a package containing live ammunition to the residence of the Managing Director of First Bank, Oluwasegun Adebiosu.

The development was disclosed by the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Fatai Tijani, during a press briefing held at the command headquarters in Ikeja on Tuesday.

According to the police commissioner, the suspicious incident occurred on May 7 when an unidentified dispatch rider reportedly delivered a sealed envelope to Adebiosu’s residence in Lagos.

Security personnel attached to the residence reportedly received the package in the normal course of duty before handing it over to the bank executive.

Ammunition Discovered Inside Envelope

Upon opening the envelope, Adebiosu allegedly discovered two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition concealed within the package.

Police authorities revealed that the envelope contained no written message, threat note, identification details or any information that could immediately reveal the sender’s identity or intentions.

The absence of accompanying information has further heightened concerns surrounding the motive behind the delivery.

Speaking on the matter, Commissioner Tijani said the command considers the incident a serious security issue and has activated investigative measures to uncover those responsible.

“Upon opening the envelope, the First Bank Managing Director discovered two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition concealed inside,” the police commissioner stated.

Police Launch Full Investigation

The Lagos Police Command said detectives are currently working to identify and locate the dispatch rider who delivered the parcel, as well as determine the origin of the ammunition.

Investigators are also examining whether the incident was intended as a threat, an act of intimidation, or part of a broader criminal scheme.

According to Tijani, law enforcement agencies are pursuing multiple leads and gathering relevant evidence to establish the circumstances surrounding the delivery.

“A thorough investigation is actively underway to unmask the identity of the dispatch rider, trace the source of the ammunition, and determine the motive behind this threat,” he said.

Security Concerns Raised

The incident has sparked concerns within security circles, particularly because it involved a prominent figure in Nigeria’s banking sector.

Security experts note that the delivery of live ammunition without explanation could be interpreted as an attempt to send a threatening message, although investigators have yet to establish any definitive motive.

Authorities have assured the public that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure the safety of the bank executive while the investigation continues.
