Police Foil Attempt to Sell Newborn Baby, Reunite 21-Year-Old Mother With Family in Anambra
Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have reportedly prevented an alleged attempt by a 21-year-old woman to sell her newborn baby.
The incident occurred on Friday, June 19, after officers attached to the Oyi Divisional Headquarters received a report from a concerned citizen about the alleged plan.
Following the information, police operatives moved to a location in Igbariam, where they found the young mother with her newborn child.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman had allegedly kept her pregnancy and delivery secret from her parents.
It was also gathered that she had left her family home in Imo State and moved to Igbariam, where she stayed with a friend before the alleged attempt was uncovered.
Upon discovering the situation, the police immediately contacted her parents, who responded and arrived at the location.
The woman and her baby were subsequently reunited with the family to ensure the child received proper care, protection, and emotional support while investigations into the matter continue.
The Anambra State Police Command has continued to urge members of the public to report suspicious activities involving children and vulnerable persons, stressing the importance of community cooperation in preventing crimes.
