Osun 2026: BVAS causing serious problems, Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi laments

The Deputy Governor of Osun State, Prince Kola Adewusi, has cast his vote in the ongoing Osun State governorship election, while expressing concern over the malfunctioning of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) at his polling unit.

Adewusi voted at Ilode Ward 1 (Ilode I), Unit 001, located at Enuwa Square, Palace Frontage, Ile-Ife, in Ife East Local Government Area of the state.

The voting exercise witnessed a significant turnout of voters, with residents arriving at the polling unit early to exercise their franchise.

However, the smooth conduct of the election was reportedly affected by difficulties with the BVAS machine, which voters said slowed down the accreditation process and caused delays at the polling unit.

Speaking to P.M. News after casting his ballot, Adewusi commended the early mobilisation of security personnel, electoral officials and voters but expressed disappointment over the technical challenges associated with the accreditation device.

According to him, the election commenced on a positive note, with the relevant personnel and voters present at the polling unit, but the malfunctioning BVAS had become a major obstacle to the process.

“The election started on a very good note. The security are on ground, INEC people are on ground, and voters too. But the problem now is that the BVAS is causing a lot of problems. It is malfunctioning.

“So, my appeal now is for them to change the BVAS machine or have a backup so that this thing can move as quickly as possible.”

The Deputy Governor urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to address the technical challenges promptly to prevent unnecessary delays and ensure that eligible voters are able to cast their ballots without difficulty.

He also called for a swift response to equipment-related problems at polling units, stressing the importance of ensuring that the electoral process remains seamless as voters continue to turn out across the state.

The Osun governorship election is being conducted across the state’s 30 local government areas, with voters choosing among the candidates seeking to govern the state for the next four years.

As voting continues, attention remains focused on the efficiency of the accreditation process, particularly the performance of the BVAS machines, which are central to voter verification during the election.
