“No light, No campaign” — Delta women protest, warn politicians ahead of 2027 elections

Residents of a Delta community have taken to the streets in protest over prolonged electricity outages, with women leading calls for urgent government intervention.

A viral video circulating on social media shows dozens of women marching through their area, voicing frustration over what they described as total neglect and lack of basic amenities.

Women demand electricity, threaten election boycott

In the footage, the protesters carried bold placards with inscriptions such as “No Light, No Campaign” and “Isoko Need Light,” signalling growing anger ahead of future political activities.

One of the women, who spoke passionately in the video, appealed directly to authorities, stressing that electricity is essential for daily living and small businesses in the community.

Another protester linked the lack of power supply to worsening hardship, lamenting hunger and urging both the state and federal governments to act swiftly.

Several others echoed similar concerns, emphasising that access to electricity and clean water remains critical for their survival and wellbeing.

Growing frustration sparks online reactions

The protest has since sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing mixed views about the demonstration and broader governance issues.
