“HR persuaded me to stay, then resigned a week later” — Lady reveals

A woman has shared a striking workplace experience, recounting how a Human Resources officer persuaded her to remain in her job, only to resign shortly after.

Workplace irony sparks reactions

The account, which surfaced online, has drawn attention to issues surrounding employee retention, workplace communication, and organisational transparency.

According to the lady, the incident occurred during her time at a previous place of employment, where she had approached the HR department to formally tender her resignation.

She said the HR officer engaged her in a lengthy discussion, outlining reasons she should reconsider her decision and remain with the company.

I remember when I told HR I wanted to quit, he spoke to me for about 30 minutes, convincing me to stay. He made it seem like leaving would not be the best decision for me at that time. I listened to him, trusted his judgement, and decided to continue working there. But to my surprise, the very next week, I heard that he had resigned from the same company. It left me confused and made me question everything about that conversation,” she said.

Concerns over retention strategies

The incident has sparked conversations about workplace practices, particularly how employers handle staff retention.

Experts note that similar situations have occurred in the past, where employees were encouraged to stay despite underlying organisational challenges.

In recent years, reports have highlighted increasing resignation rates across various sectors, with workers citing job dissatisfaction, poor management, and lack of growth opportunities as key reasons for leaving.
