Nigerian politicians and celebrities mourn veteran actor Olu Jacobs

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo, and several Nigerian entertainers have mourned veteran Nollywood actor Olu Jacobs, who d!£d at the age of 84.

Jacobs’ passing was announced by his family on Wednesday, September 16, with his son, Olusoji Jacobs, describing him as “The Lion of Lufodo” and appealing to bloggers and social media users to respect the family’s privacy.

Reacting to the news, Atiku described the late actor as “an institution, a cultural icon and one of the finest ambassadors of our creative spirit.”

He said Jacobs’ distinctive voice, talent and decades of work made him part of the collective memory of generations of Nigerians, adding that he helped lay the foundation for the growth of Nollywood.

Keyamo also paid tribute to the veteran actor, describing him as a “consummate actor,” “quintessential professional,” “legend of the stage” and “perfect gentleman.”

Several entertainers, including Broda Shaggi, Funke Jenifa Akindele, Williams Uchemba, Bisola, Kunle Remi, Banky W, Deyemi Okanlawon, Femi Lazarus and Korty, also took to social media to mourn Jacobs.

They described him as a legend and icon while praying for comfort and strength for his wife, actress Joke Silva, and the rest of his family.
