Nigerian man arrested for attempting to murder girlfriend

The Gombe State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Musa Adamu, for allegedly attacking his girlfriend with a hammer, attempting to strangle her, and stealing ₦100,000.

According to the police, the suspect, a resident of Riyal Quarters, broke into the victim’s home in the early hours of June 9, 2026, scaling the fence and forcing entry into her room.

“The suspect allegedly attacked her with an iron hammer and attempted to strangle her using a USB cable before robbing her of the sum of One Hundred Thousand Naira. Upon raising an alarm, the suspect fled the scene,” said DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the police spokesperson.

The victim sustained serious injuries and was immediately taken to a hospital, treated, and later discharged.

Police launched a swift investigation, arresting Adamu at about 9:45 a.m. on the same day. Authorities recovered the blood-stained hammer and USB cable believed to have been used in the attack.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that, prior to the incident, the suspect had requested money from the victim, knowing she is a businesswoman, but she declined,” Abdullahi added.

The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue and will be charged to court upon conclusion of the probe.

The Gombe Police Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging residents to report suspicious persons or criminal activities promptly.
