Nigerian basketball player arrested on r@pe charge in US, suspended from team

A Nigerian basketball player Daniel Tobiloba Adegboyega, has been arrested on a charge of first-degree r@pe in the United States.

The 21-year-old Jacksonville State University men’s basketball player is being held in the Calhoun County Jail pending a bond hearing, according to court documents.

A hold has been placed on him by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to the jail log.

The alleged r@pe took place on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, according to court documents.

The arrest warrant charges that Adegboyega “engage(d) in s3xual intercourse with [the alleged victim] by forcible compulsion” in violation of state law.

Adegboyega — who has gone by the name Daniel Tobiloba as a college basketball player — committed to Jacksonville State in May.

The 7-foot center spent last season at California-Riverside after playing the previous two at South Florida.

Adegboyega signed with Kennesaw State in 2022 out of Grand View Christian High School in Des Moines, Iowa, but never suited up for the Owls.

He has played in 27 total games with five starts in his college career, averaging 0.7 points and 1.3 rebounds.

He has been suspended from the team, according to court records and the university.

Adegboyega’s bio has been removed from the Jacksonville State athletics website. 

The JSU athletics department sent the following statement to AL.com: “We are aware of the arrest. In response, the individual has been suspended from the men’s basketball team. Because the matter did not occur on campus and remains under active investigation by the Jacksonville Police Department, questions regarding the investigation should be directed to the Jacksonville Police Department.”

First-degree r@pe in Alabama is punishable by up to life in prison.
