Nancy Isime Shares Emotional Tribute to Alex Ekubo, Recalls His Humour and Generosity

Nollywood actress Nancy Isime has paid a heartfelt tribute to her late colleague, Alex Ekubo, describing him as a vibrant, witty, and generous individual whose presence brought joy to everyone around him.

Speaking during the service of songs held in his honour, Isime reflected on the actor’s personality, recalling the humour, energy, and warmth that made him a beloved figure both within and outside the Nigerian film industry.

According to the actress, one of Alex’s most memorable traits was his playful nature and his ability to tease friends effortlessly.

“And one thing nobody has really mentioned here is his bad mouth. Alex had bad mouth,” she said jokingly, drawing laughter from those present as she recounted some of her fondest memories of him.

Nancy revealed that Alex was known for creating humorous nicknames for people close to him and rarely missed an opportunity to engage in light-hearted banter.

She recalled how he persistently referred to her as “old 20 naira,” regardless of how much her career and appearance evolved over the years.

“He used to call me old 20 naira, the oldest. Even when I started making money and looking new, he would still say, ‘No, you are still old 20 naira,’” she said.

According to her, the actor’s teasing was never malicious but rather a reflection of his lively personality and ability to keep those around him entertained.

She noted that once a camera was pointed at Alex, everyone knew a humorous remark was coming.

“Once you put a camera on his face, you must make sure he yabs you. And you can never out-yab Alex. Never,” she said.

Beyond his humour, Isime described Alex as a deeply generous person who was always willing to share whatever he had with others.

She said his kindness extended even to the smallest gestures, noting that he often put the needs of others before his own.

“He had the biggest heart. He loved to give. Even if the only thing he could give you was the meat in his food, he would give it to you,” she recalled.

Nancy added that even after making such sacrifices, Alex would still find a way to turn the moment into a joke, leaving everyone smiling.

Reflecting on his professional career, the actress praised Alex’s contribution to Nollywood, describing him as one of the industry’s most recognisable and talented actors.
