Veteran entertainer and activist Charles Oputa (Charly Boy) has reacted to reports alleging that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu paid a visit to detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu in prison.

The claim, which circulated widely on social media, has not been officially confirmed by the Presidency or correctional authorities. However, it sparked widespread public debate and reactions across political and social platforms.

Charly Boy Questions Alleged Meeting

Reacting via his official 𝕏 handle, Charly Boy questioned the purpose and substance of the alleged meeting, suggesting that the government should prioritize broader national security concerns instead of focusing on the IPOB leader’s case.

He expressed frustration over what he described as inconsistencies in the handling of insecurity challenges across the country, while referencing the ongoing detention and prosecution of Kanu.

In his post, he wrote:

“Oga Tinubu, I hear say you secretly go visit Nnamdi Kanu for prison. Una talk better? I just wan warn you. As you no fit catch 1 terrorist but always flexing for Nnamdi. Nigeria will soon fall on youoooooo.”

Background to Nnamdi Kanu’s Case

Nnamdi Kanu was first arrested in 2015 on charges including terrorism, treasonable felony, and operating an unlawful organisation.

He was granted bail in 2017 but later fled Nigeria following a military operation in his hometown. In 2021, he was re-arrested abroad and extradited back to Nigeria, a development that triggered legal controversy and political tension.

His trial resumed shortly after, with the Federal Government accusing him of inciting violence through broadcasts and activities linked to the IPOB movement.
