NACJ CELEBRATES PROF. SAWA BULUS AJIYA ON HIS BIRTHDAY

Today, the Nigerian Association of Christian Journalists (NACJ) joins family, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers to celebrate our esteemed Ambassador of Integrity, Prof. Sawa Bulus Ajiya, on the occasion of his birthday.

By God’s infinite mercy, He has added another glorious year to the life of this distinguished scholar and patriot. We are proud to celebrate Prof. Sawa, a proud and deserving recipient of our prestigious “Integrity Man of the Year Award”, a man whose life is an epitome of integrity, diligence, and service to nation.

Prof. Sawa is a leading Climate Change expert and the only Professor of Climate Change in the Department of Geography and Environmental Management, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Since 2009, he has served as Pioneer Coordinator of the Training and Outreach Unit, Centre for Disaster Risk Management, ABU Zaria. His scholarly impact is remarkable: 69 journal publications, 16 conference proceedings, and 5 chapter contributions to climate change textbooks.

From 2010 to 2025, he has supervised and graduated 21 Ph.D, 4 http://M.Phil, and 86 http://M.Sc students in climate change-related fields. He has also led 16 internationally sponsored research projects on climate change and disaster management.

Prof. Sawa serves as Climate Change Expert Consultant to UNDP/ENVIPLAN Ltd. on Environmental Engineering, Planning and NEWMAP, and to the Federal Ministry of Water Resources/African Development Bank/ENVIPLAN International Limited on Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Investment Planning in Nigeria.

He is a member of several professional bodies, including:

Association of Nigerian Geographers (MANG)

Nigerian Meteorological Society (MN.Met.S)

Nigerian Association of Hydrological Sciences (MNAHS)

International Society for Agricultural Meteorology (MINSAM)

He is also a Fellow of Disaster Management and Safety Science, a Fellow of the Association of Climate Change Professionals of Nigeria, and currently serves as Chairman of the Garkida Development Association.
