“My 14-year-old brother has been in Kirikiri since 2023 without committing any crime” – Lady cries out

A Nigerian lady identified as Tosin has cried out online over the continued detention of her younger brother, who she alleges has been in prison since 2023 following a police raid.

The emotional appeal has sparked widespread reactions, with many expressing concern over prolonged detention without conviction.

How the Arrest Happened

According to the lady, her younger brother was arrested during a police raid in 2023 alongside several others.

She said those arrested at the scene were later released, but her brother was not among them. He was instead taken into custody and later transferred to Kirikiri Medium Prison, Mile 2, where he has remained since then.

Court Proceedings and Delays

She further explained that the case has been taken to the Ikeja High Court but has continued to suffer repeated adjournments from 2023 to 2026.

She also revealed that the police officer who carried out the arrest reportedly testified in court and confirmed that her brother did not commit any offence.

Despite this, she said the case remains unresolved, leaving the family frustrated over the prolonged delay in justice.

Call for Help

Overwhelmed by the situation, she appealed to Nigerians for assistance, questioning the continuous court adjournments and her brother’s long detention without conviction.

In her words: “Good afternoon Nigerians, my name is Tosin. Please, I need your help concerning my younger brother.

We suddenly did not see him at home, and later we received a call that he was at a police station in 2023… he was transferred to Kirikiri Medium Prison.

Since 2023, he has been taken to court without committing any offence… even the police officer who arrested him confirmed he did not commit any crime.

They asked us to bring ₦150,000 for bail, but we cannot afford it. We are orphans; both our father and mother have passed away.

My brother was still a child when this started. He did not commit any crime and will be 17 this year. Is it until he is 25 or 30 before they release him? Please, Nigerians, help us.”
