Mother and 2-year-old daughter k!lled by lightning strike

A mother and her 2-year-old daughter were k!lled after being struck by lightning in a neighborhood north of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States.

Margate Police Department and Margate Fire Rescue responded to a 911 call at about 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2026 that two individuals had been struck by lightning and were found lying on the sidewalk in Margate, Florida, according to a Margate Police Department press release.

It appeared as though the woman and her daughter had just exited their car when lightning hit them, sending their bodies to the ground, witness Prince Moody told ABC Miami. 

The mother, identified as 31-year-old Kenya Glasgow, was rushed to North Broward Medical Center in Deerfield Beach, and her daughter to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, accompanied by a police escort, according to police.

Both victims were pronounced d3ad shortly after arriving at the hospitals, police said.

The responders and medical personnel immediately provided CPR and other life-saving efforts upon arriving at the scene, according to police.

Moody said he rushed outside to help after seeing an orange glow through his window and being told by his son that a lady had been hit.

“Very traumatic scene,” Moody said. 

“I offered aid as much as I could, calmed the family down, and I started praying. I called 911 immediately.

“It was very emotional to see two lifeless bodies on the ground.” 

Margate Police Department is investigating the incident.

Police have not released any additional details at this time.

The grieving father and husband, Kameron Glasgow, is remembering his wife and daughter.

“Words can’t describe that feeling,” Glasgow said.

According to him, they had just arrived at the home and were trying to get inside ahead of an approaching storm.

“We saw that the rain was picking up and we just said, ‘Hey, we got to get the girls inside,’” Glasgow recalled.

Then, lightning struck.

Glasgow said he felt the electricity shock him.

“I got the aftershock from the ground. By the grace of God, I’m still here,” he said. 

But when he turned around, he was confronted with a devastating sight.

“To turn around and see your wife and your daughter there lifeless is even worse,” Glasgow said.

Kenya and Kennedi are survived by Glasgow and Kennedi’s twin sister, Kensli.

Glasgow said he is now grappling not only with his own grief, but with what the loss will mean for his surviving daughter.

“For her to lose her twin sister, words can’t describe that feeling because I know she can’t even fathom it right now,” he said through tears.

Glasgow described his wife as someone who was always there for the people she loved.

“My wife — the biggest heart in the world,” he said.

“The biggest heart in the world. Puts everybody before herself.”

He called Kenya, who was his high school sweetheart who he met senior year, one of his heroes, alongside his late father.

“She helped me make me into the man that I am today,” Glasgow said.

He described Kennedi as an “Energizer Bunny” with a love of music, particularly songs by Benson Boone.

“I’ve never seen a 2-year-old sing Benson Boone on a karaoke with a mic word for word,” he said. 

“Two years old and as clear as day. ‘Beautiful Things’, that’s her favorite song.”

Glasgow said the loss is especially painful after he viewed the birth of his twin daughters as a blessing following the death of his father.

“I thought my biggest blessing was God sending me my two daughters once my dad passed,” he said. 

“Just for one of them to be gone now, it’s tough.”

He said losing the woman he had spent half his life with will also be difficult to comprehend.

Despite his grief, Glasgow said he knows he must find a way forward for Kensli.

“It’s going to be OK because I have to be, because I have another beautiful daughter that’s inside,” he said.

For now, he is leaning on his faith.

“God gives no challenges to people that can’t handle it,” Glasgow said.
