Military plane crashes and explodes into fireball, killing 5 — but with co-pilot surviving

Shocking video shows a military plane crashing and bursting into flames at an airbase in India, killing five personnel on board — but with a co-pilot miraculously surviving.

The Indian Air Force aircraft landed normally at the Rowriah Airbase in Assam during a training exercise, then veered off the runway, overturned in a grass field and exploded, according to security footage that captured the violent crash.

Firefighters rushed to the scene and doused the flames.

Five military members were killed, officials confirmed — but the Soviet-era Antonov AN-32’s co-pilot somehow survived with serious injuries.

Those killed were identified as Squadron Leader Prashant Singh, Flight Lieutenant Shubham Kumar, Sergeant Jitendra Sharma, Agniveervayu Khemaram Kumawat and Agniveervayu Danish Alam. 

“IAF extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and stands firmly with them in this hour of grief,” the Indian Air Force said in a statement.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

The cargo plane is a Soviet-era tactical transport aircraft that has long formed a key part of the IAF’s fleet.

In March, two Indian Air Force pilots were killed when a Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jet crashed during a routine training mission in Assam.
