Member Of APC NWC, Please Ignore The Comment Of Wike That I Was An Uncommon Performer In PDP—Akpabio

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, describing him as a high-performing public official whose commitment to infrastructure development has remained consistent over the years. Akpabio made the remarks during a project commissioning ceremony in the Federal Capital Territory, as aired by TVC News on Friday, July 3, 2026.Watch the ,,Video H3re..>>>

Speaking at the event, the Senate President recalled Wike’s visit to Akwa Ibom State during his tenure as governor, when Wike was serving as a minister. According to Akpabio, the visit included an inspection of an underground drainage project, which he said left a lasting impression on the current FCT minister.

“The Honorable Minister of the FCT, and one-time performing Governor of River State, Nyesom Wike, who learns from me, the Minister visited my state once when I was a Governor, and that time he was a Minister, and he entered the underground pipe-jacking drainage system, and he came out with a handkerchief in his hand. I said, what is this? He said, if I ever had the opportunity to be in River State, I would perform miracles,” Akpabio said.

The Senate President said Wike later had the opportunity to serve as governor and delivered on his promises through his performance in office. “So, God gave you the opportunity, and you performed excellently well. In fact, I got so worried at the time, I came to you, and I pleaded with you. I said, I supported you to become Governor, not to surpass what I did. So, please, take it easy,” he said.

Akpabio added that he jokingly urged Wike to slow down, suggesting that future officeholders should also have opportunities to make their own contributions. “If Jesus Christ had done all the work for God, there would be no need for the Pope. So, another Governor will come. Don’t do this just because you saw me working so hard. But now it has become your DNA. Wherever you go to, you show your hand. God will bless you,” he stated.

The Senate President also addressed members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), asking them not to misinterpret Wike’s earlier remarks describing him as an “uncommon performer” during his time in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“The members of the Working Committee of the All Progressive Congress, please ignore the comments of the Honorable Minister that I was an uncommon performer in PDP. He’s not talking about PDP of today. And you need to know that at that time, there was no APC. There was no APC. APC was born about 2014,” Akpabio said.
