Man carrying American flag confronted in Minnesota as viral video sparks heated debate

A video showing a man carrying an American flag being confronted by several people in Minnesota has gone viral and sparked heated reactions online.

The clip was shared on X by the account Wall Street Apes on July 27. It shows the man walking with the US flag before people in the area approach him and begin arguing with him.

During the exchange, one person accused the man of causing problems, although the video does not clearly explain what he had allegedly done.

The man responded that he was simply carrying an American flag and was not looking for trouble.

As the argument continued, the situation appeared to become more tense.

At one point, the man said he was worried about his safety and threatened to call the police.

Later in the video, a vehicle stopped close to him and another person got out. The person narrating the video interpreted this as an attempt to physically confront the flag-carrying man.

The account that shared the video wrote:

He immediately gets harassed, threatened with physical violence.”

However, some of the stronger claims circulating about the incident have not been independently confirmed.

The Daily Dot said it could not verify whether the man was physically assaulted, whether anyone was injured or whether police made any arrests. The video itself also does not establish some of the wider claims being made about race, immigration and politics in Minnesota.

The incident nevertheless triggered strong reactions on X.

Some users called for arrests and punishment for the people involved. Others used the confrontation to raise concerns about whether Americans can freely display their country’s flag without facing hostility.

One X user wrote:

“If you can’t wave your flag in your own country, that tells you its being taken over.”

Under Minnesota law, intentionally causing someone to fear immediate bodily harm can potentially fall under fifth-degree assault. However, whether what happened in the video meets that legal definition would be for law enforcement and the courts to determine.
