7 African stars who landed big transfers after shining at the 2026 World Cup
African footballers made their mark at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and some have already turned their performances into major club moves.
Players from Ghana, Morocco, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt and Cabo Verde secured transfers after impressing on football’s biggest international stage.
Here are seven African players who made notable moves after the tournament.
- Ayyoub Bouaddi, Morocco
Ayyoub Bouaddi entered the World Cup as one of Europe’s promising young midfielders, but his performances for Morocco pushed his reputation even higher.
The 18-year-old impressed against Brazil and went on to make four more appearances during Morocco’s campaign.
Manchester City eventually signed him from French side Lille.
- Yan Diomande, Côte d’Ivoire
Yan Diomande was one of Côte d’Ivoire’s standout players at the tournament.
His speed, dribbling and ability to create chances caused problems for opposing defenders as the Elephants progressed beyond the group stage.
His performances caught the attention of Real Madrid, who signed him from RB Leipzig in what the source described as a record-setting deal.
- Haissem Hassan, Egypt
Egyptian winger Haissem Hassan also used the World Cup to show what he could do.
The 24-year-old particularly impressed against defending champions Argentina in the round of 16, using his pace and creativity to trouble their defence.
Scottish giants Celtic later secured his signature from Real Oviedo.
- Sidny Lopes Cabral, Cabo Verde
Cabo Verde made history by appearing at their first World Cup, and Sidny Lopes Cabral became one of the team’s standout names.
The defender scored a curling goal against Argentina in the round of 32. His strike was later voted the Hyundai Goal of the Tournament.
After the competition, he left Benfica for Turkish club Trabzonspor.
- Ismael Saibari, Morocco
Ismael Saibari enjoyed an impressive World Cup with Morocco.
The midfielder scored against Brazil, Scotland and Haiti. He also converted the decisive penalty when Morocco eliminated the Netherlands in a round-of-32 shootout.
His performances earned him a move from PSV Eindhoven to German giants Bayern Munich.
- Vozinha, Cabo Verde
At 40, Cabo Verde goalkeeper Vozinha proved that the World Cup can also create opportunities for experienced players.
He produced an impressive performance against eventual champions Spain, making several saves and keeping a clean sheet.
Vozinha entered the tournament as a free agent. After his World Cup performances, he secured a move to Chilean giants Colo-Colo.
- Caleb Yirenkyi, Ghana
Ghana midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi also boosted his reputation at the tournament.
The youngster impressed with his strength, energy and ability to cover the pitch.
His biggest moment came against Panama, when he scored a dramatic late winner for the Black Stars.
Yirenkyi later moved from Danish club Nordsjaelland to English Championship side Coventry City.
The transfers show how quickly a strong World Cup performance can change a player’s career, with several African stars now getting opportunities at some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
