Lagos Police Uncover Alleged Kidnap Syndicate’s Hotel Hideout After Foiled Abduction Plot, Four Suspects Killed

A fresh investigation by the Lagos State Police Command has uncovered the alleged operations of a kidnapping syndicate that reportedly used a hotel in the Bucknor area of Lagos as a base to coordinate abduction activities across several parts of the state.

The discovery followed a successful police operation that foiled an attempted kidnapping at Jakande Estate Gate and resulted in the death of four suspected gang members during a fierce exchange of gunfire.

According to investigators, the syndicate had carefully concealed its activities by operating from a hotel room where members posed as ordinary guests while allegedly planning attacks on residents and businessmen.

Hotel Allegedly Served as Operational Base

Police findings indicate that the suspects checked into the hotel without attracting suspicion. They reportedly paid for their accommodation, maintained a low profile, and blended into the environment while allegedly using the facility as a command centre for their operations.

Detectives believe the group monitored potential targets and coordinated movements in areas including Jakande Estate, Oke-Afa, Okota, and surrounding communities.

Residents in those neighbourhoods had reportedly become increasingly concerned over a rise in kidnapping incidents and armed attacks in recent weeks.

Several victims were allegedly intercepted while driving at night, forced out of their vehicles, and taken away by armed assailants.

One resident, identified only as Mope, claimed the gang often executed operations with remarkable speed and precision.

“They usually came and left within minutes. People were too scared to challenge them,” the resident reportedly said.

Police Foil Planned Kidnapping

According to the Lagos State Police Command, intelligence reports had linked the syndicate to a series of planned kidnappings targeting wealthy individuals in Lagos.

Acting on the information, operatives attached to the Commissioner of Police Special Squad 1 reportedly launched surveillance operations and discovered that the gang was preparing to strike on the night of May 24.

Investigators said the suspects had selected Jakande Estate Gate as the location for the planned abduction of a businessman.

Before the operation could be executed, police officers moved in to intercept the gang.

Authorities said the suspects immediately opened fire upon sighting security operatives, triggering a gun battle that sent traders, motorists, and residents fleeing for safety.

Four Suspects Killed, Officer Injured

At the end of the confrontation, four suspected kidnappers were killed, while another suspect reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds.

A police inspector sustained injuries during the operation and was rushed to a medical facility for treatment.

Security operatives recovered several items believed to have been used by the gang, including:

• A Toyota Sienna vehicle allegedly used during operations

• An AK-47 rifle

• Another firearm

• Multiple magazines

• Live ammunition

Investigation Leads Detectives to Bucknor Hotel

The investigation subsequently expanded beyond the scene of the gun battle.

Through analysis of communication records and intelligence gathering, detectives reportedly traced the suspects to a hotel in Bucknor where they had been staying.

When officers visited the facility days later, they discovered two vehicles allegedly abandoned by the occupants.

Hotel management had reportedly notified authorities after becoming concerned that the guests had suddenly disappeared without explanation.

A search of the rooms allegedly led to the recovery of:

• Travelling bags

• Clothing items

• Electrical appliances

• Important documents

• International passports

Multiple Identities Under Investigation

Police sources revealed that one of the recovered passports and another foreign passport allegedly contained the photograph of the same individual but under different identities.

Investigators identified the suspect as Onwukwalu Junior Ifeanyi, also known as Ifeko, who allegedly travelled under another identity, Kouadio Yves Alexandre.

Another passport recovered from the hotel was reportedly linked to Nzeribe Izuchukwu Victor, whom authorities suspect was also connected to the criminal network.

Alleged International Connections

Speaking on the development, the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, disclosed that preliminary investigations suggest the suspected gang leader may have been operating from outside Nigeria and allegedly travelled into Lagos specifically to carry out kidnapping activities.

The commissioner added that the suspect’s travel records indicated possible international connections, prompting investigators to broaden their inquiries.

Authorities said efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing suspect and identify other members of the syndicate.

Police are also working to verify ownership of the recovered vehicles and establish the identities of some of the deceased suspects.

Security Concerns Grow

The latest findings have renewed concerns over the evolving tactics of criminal gangs, particularly those that use legitimate businesses and accommodation facilities as cover for illegal operations.

The Lagos State Police Command assured residents that intelligence-driven operations would continue across the state to dismantle criminal networks and prevent future kidnapping incidents.

Officials urged members of the public, hotel operators, and community leaders to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
