Kwara Bans Graduation Ceremonies In Schools

The Kwara State Government has banned public and private schools from organising graduation, valedictory and other end-of-session ceremonies.

The directive was contained in a letter signed by a Director in the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Mrs Bunmi Osanupin, on behalf of the Commissioner, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe.

The letter was addressed to the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Prof Raheem Adaramaja, and made available to journalists on Friday in Ilorin.

According to the government, the decision followed prevailing security challenges and the need to maintain order, safety and decorum in schools across the state.

“All school proprietors, principals, headteachers and administrators are required to ensure strict compliance with this directive,” the letter read.

The ministry warned that any school that violates the directive would face sanctions in line with existing regulations.

“Any school found to be in violation of this directive shall be liable to appropriate sanctions in accordance with existing regulations.

“By this notice, all concerned are advised to be guided accordingly,” the letter added.

Naija News reports that these directives from the state government come amid the state’s security situation.

In other news, the Kwara State Command of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has confirmed the arrest of a suspected member of a logistics network allegedly supplying materials to bandits and other criminal groups in the state.

The suspect was arrested in Ilorin, the state capital, during a major operation carried out by the Violent Crime Response Unit of the command.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ilorin on Thursday, June 18.
