Kidnapped Nigerian Major-General Rabe Abubakar Dies In Terrorists’ Captivity

The Katsina State Government has announced the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar while in the hands of bandits, characterizing the incident as a devastating loss for the state and the nation.

The announcement was made in a statement issued by Dr. Nasiru Mu’azu, Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs.

According to the statement, the retired senior military commander died as a result of complications from diabetes and hypertension while being held captive.

The announcement said, “The deceased retired general died a natural death from complications of diabetes and hypertension.”

The government said that, despite ongoing efforts by the state administration and security authorities to achieve his release, the situation turned tragic.

Mu’azu stated that the abduction and subsequent death of the former military officer was not just a devastating loss for his family and Katsina State, but also a colossal loss for Nigeria.

Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda responded to the incident by expressing deep regret over the retired general’s death, characterizing it as a tragic moment for the state and a sharp reminder of the country’s security challenges.

The governor expressed his sympathies to the bereaved family and prayed for the deceased’s soul.

Radda also underlined his administration’s commitment to collaborating with the federal government and security services to combat banditry and other types of criminal activity throughout the state.

He reassured people that officials will step up efforts to bring those guilty of the abduction to justice.

He stated that the government is unwavering in its mission to eradicate banditry and protect lives and property in Katsina State.

The governor asked individuals to continue providing credible information to security services and cooperating in the continuing fight against insecurity.

The killing of the retired Major General highlights northern Nigeria’s ongoing security problem, in which armed bandit groups continue to commit kidnappings, attacks on villages, and other violent crimes despite ongoing military and security operations.
