Keyamo Responds To Man Offering To Pay #25,000 Fine Over Peter Obi’s Airport Parking Incident

According to reports, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has responded to a Nigerian who offered to pay the ₦25,000 fine imposed over the airport parking incident involving the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi.

The development followed an open letter written by Nnaemeka Ikerionwu, who appealed to the minister to provide the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) bank account details so he could personally settle the fine on Obi’s behalf.

In the letter, Ikerionwu commended Keyamo for releasing CCTV footage of the July 4 incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, describing the move as an act of transparency. He said he was willing to pay the fine to ensure that FAAN did not lose the revenue and also appealed to the minister to forgive Obi over the incident.

The letter further urged the former Anambra State governor to avoid actions that could generate unnecessary public controversy in the future.

Responding through his verified X account, Keyamo directed the volunteer to visit the appropriate FAAN office to obtain details for making the payment.

The minister wrote, “Thank you @Onsogbu for bringing this to my attention. Please, Mr. Nnaemeka Ikerionwu should proceed to see the Director of Commercial and Business Development for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and he will be directed on the mode of payment of the fine for the offender.”

Keyamo also criticised Obi over his previous allegations that he was being deliberately targeted at Nigerian airports. He stated, “Now that we have burst his bubble, next time, @PeterObi should think twice before making outlandish claims of being targeted at our airports or anywhere for that matter in order to get ‘sympathy votes’. Nigerians have become too politically savvy to fall for such cheap political gimmicks from presidential candidates that emerged from miracle centres.”

The exchange marks the latest development in the controversy surrounding Obi’s alleged improper parking at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
