Kaduna man docked for stealing girlfriend’s iPhone

A 26-year-old man identified as Kevin Moses, was docked before a Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday for allegedly stealing his girlfriend’s iPhone worth N650,000.

The defendant, who resides in Sabon Tasha, Kaduna, is charged with stealing.

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence in Barnawa area of Kaduna on May 31.

The prosecutor said that the defendant who is a boyfriend to the complainant, Sharon James, stole her iPhone worth N650,000 during a dedication ceremony at his uncle’s house.

The prosecutor said that the phone was tracked to the buyer who told the police that the defendant sold it to him.

The offence according to the prosecutor, contravenes the provisions of Section 217 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.

Section 217 stipulates five years jail term if found guilty.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

He ruled that the sureties must show evidence of tax payment to the Kaduna State Government and must be living within the jurisdiction of the court.

Emmanuel adjourned the case until July 22, for hearing.(NAN)
