Political analyst Jide Ojo has argued that political agreements signed by candidates cannot override the Nigerian Constitution, stressing that freedom of association remains a fundamental right for every citizen.

Speaking during an interview on Trust TV, Ojo reacted to reports that members of the NDC were required to sign anti-defection undertakings before contesting elections on the party’s platform. According to him, politicians often agree to such conditions while seeking political opportunities, but the legality of those agreements can only be determined when tested against constitutional provisions.
